Cafe Kitsune

📍 157 Water St, Vancouver

Cafe Kitsune is a well-known coffee shop chain known for blending French and Japanese aesthetics, based on its fashion brand – Kitsune. There are multiple locations around the world like Japan, Paris, New York, etc. With strong influence in fashion and aesthetic from its founder, the coffee shop has a minimalist and stylist architecture that reflects the culture of Japan and French.

They have a decent menu with a variety of different drinks and pastries. Most of the time, if a fashion brand carry its own FnB store, it would focus more on the appearance of the store and not the quality of their food/drinks. As for Kitsune, I would say the experience is relatively good when comparing to other fashion-related FnB store.

We ordered a matcha strawberry (signature item), an iced caramel latte, and a hot earl grey tea. For pastries, we ordered croissants, matcha brioche, and earl grey cake roll. Prices are a bit steep due to their location and brand name ($9 for the matcha drink and pastries from $5-9 excluded tips). As for location, I recommend trying matcha-related food and drinks. The strawberry matcha and the matcha brioche were pretty good. All the other items I ordered are pretty mid and not that good.

The store is very stylish, and located right in the heart of Gastown. If you’re travelling from somewhere outside of Vancouver and Canada, this is worth trying. If you’re a fan of Kitsune, you can do a bit of shopping since the coffee shop is connected with the boutique as well. Therefore, you can conveniently enjoy a cup of coffee and some pastries after your shopping spree.

Overall, it is an aesthetic coffee shop that worth experience. It is suitable for quick coffee meets and for a short rest after browsing the Gastown area. It is not suitable for big groups, and study coffee dates as well because the shop doesn’t allow working on tablets and laptops here.
